At Fitzroy Early Learning Centre, we believe that establishing the foundations for a healthy and active lifestyle begins in early childhood. As part of our commitment to high-quality early childhood education and care, Fitzroy Early Learning Centre proudly offers a unique Playground to Plate® Food Garden Program, designed to revolutionise children’s relationship with food from infancy through to school age.
Our Playground to Plate® curriculum is developed and delivered by Professional Garden Educators (Qualified in Horticulture), who work closely with our classroom educators, children, and Centre Chef. Together, they lead daily hands-on garden classes, teaching children how food is grown, harvested, and prepared from the ‘Playground to Plate’.
Fresh produce from our food garden is incorporated directly into our centre menu, promoting healthy eating habits and a deeper understanding of nutrition. In our Kindergarten program, children engage with the cooking process through an interactive kitchen bench that faces into our Chef’s kitchen, connecting their gardening experiences to the preparation of fresh, healthy meals.
Through our Playground to Plate® Food Garden Program, Fitzroy Early Learning Centre empowers children to value the food system, make healthy food choices, and foster a lifelong respect for sustainability, nutrition, and the environment.
